Join Sex and Politics- Tonight's Arts segments featured play write and Sex and Politics producer Dan Kinch. Dan discussed his socially conscious theater work; some of which will be featured at the Lower East Side Festival of The Arts. Sex and Politics- Arts (Literature) producer Joseph Wade held a short poetry slam featuring pieces and interviews with three very talented poets: Angie Knott, Don Lias, and Carla Christopher.
For the politics portion of Sex and Politics Dan Kinch interviewed Debra Sweet, a longtime activist and director of the group The World Can't Wait, about her organization's campus outreach on abortion rights and their protests around the Guantanamo prisoners' hunger strikes. Paolo Cremidis reported on the strike by fast-food workers in NY. To close out tonight's show Lauren, Yvonne, Paolo, and Richard sat down for a panel discussion on the media coverage of the Boston bombing and first amendment rights in schools. In addition, Lauren and Paolo interviewed Sue of Sue Rocks Originals Everyone Inc; an organization that donates fabric to the victims of domestic violence.

Join Sex and politics-Arts as we bring you Classical and Contemporary pianist Boris Lemeshev. Boris was gracious enough to take us through our segues with some of his delightful piano pieces. Yvonne Juris interviewed Selisse Berry the founding executive director of Out & Equal Workplace Advocates, the world's largest nonprofit organization specifically dedicated to creating safe and equitable workplaces for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.
In addition, we had a very special interview between the always soulful poet Joseph Wade and the equally talented writer Ed Kearns, both of whom were recently featured in a televised creative writing event in Pennsylvania. To close the arts section we had a moving duet between our guest pianist Boris Lemeshev and our very own arts producer and flutist Yvonne Juris.

Scott Cheshire, a former child preacher, earned his MFA from Hunter College, and teaches writing at the Gotham Writers' Workshop. Roman Rojas
Roman Rojas is an innovative singer/songwriter/producer from Caracas, Venezuela living in New York City. He has worked both on stage and in the studio with some of the top musicians in the world, producing, composing and singing on commercials for the general and Hispanic advertising markets. Roman also produces several artists, including the innovative Latin/World/Pop band Rioh.
Also joining us is correspondent Kathleen Stansell with the Daily Dumpster Dive. Her recipe for Simple Squash:
Ingredients:
Squash of your choice
4 tsp of balsamic vinegar
4 tsp olive oil
salt and pepper
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut your squash in half length wise and set seeds to the side. Dress squash in Balsamic vinegar and olive oil; salt and pepper to taste. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes. Eat and Enjoy!
For the seeds: Preheat oven to 245 degrees. Pat seeds dry, wet with olive oil, and roast as a thin layer on a baking sheet for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Makes a great snack!

Le Hinton is the author of four books of poetry including Status Post Hope (2006), Black on Most Days (2008), and, his newest, The God of Our Dreams. He edits and publishes the poetry journal Fledgling Rag. Join us as we discuss poetry and publishing others' work, while Le reads his poems Metaphysics 101/Open Book Test, A Beginner's Guide to Walking Through Fire, and Man's Best Friend is a Serial Killer.
Poet and Psychologist Richard Bargdill
Our second guest is Virginia Commonwealth University associate professor of psychology Richard Bargdill. Bargdill found his passion for creating art, poetry, and music after being inspired by a graduate psychology class in his 20s. In our interview, we discuss the link between psychology and art, and he reads his stream of consciousness poem Highway Thoughts for us. Also joining us are Eva Jay with the Arts Update and Kathleen Stansell with The Daily Dumpster Dive and a new recipe for fruit salad.
Savory Fruit Salad:
1 heaping spoon peanut butter
1/2 cup boiled ginger water
2 tsp minced ginger
2 cups arugula
1 apple - chopped
1 pear - chopped
Directions: Cover ginger with water in saucepan, bringing it to a boil. Lower to a simmer for about 7 min. Chop apples and pairs; mix with arugula. Stir together ginger water, minced ginger, and peanut butter. Dress your salad and enjoy!
*Note* You can substitute any green leafy vegetable for arugula and any fruits you'd like with the apple and pear.

Teresa Mei Chuc
Poet and author of Red Thread
Join Sex and Politics Friday Edition as we interview poet Teresa Mei Chuc about her new book and the challenges of getting published. Teresa was born in Saigon, Vietnam and immigrated to the U.S. under political asylum with her mother and brother shortly after the Vietnam War while her father remained, for nine years, in a Vietcong “re-education” camp. She teaches literature and writing at a public school. Her poetry appears in journals, including EarthSpeak Magazine, Miller’s Pond, National Poetry Review, Rattle, and Verse Daily. Red Thread is her first full-length collection of poetry.
Guest host, poet and author Ed Kearns, joins us again this week for an extra spicy literature hour that includes acoustic guitarist Craig Kierce, Kathleen Stansell with The Daily Dumpster Dive, and Eva Jay with our arts update.

Jeff Rasley
Author, Mountain Man, and Director of the Basa Village Project in Nepal
From 1995-1999, Jeff was an active Himalayan mountain climber in India and Nepal. His final expedition in '99 saw three Nepalese porters killed by an avalanche while carrying gear for Western climbers. Jeff himself barely escaped the avalanche and suffered from PTSD as a result. Join Sex and Politics' Thursday edition as we speak to Jeff about his experience with PTSD and overcoming tragedy, as well as his new development work in the remote Himalayan village of Basa in Nepal.
In addition Mike Hovell brings us commentary from the right. Dan Kinch reports on the Occupy Movement, and Lauren Keating brings us all the latest news of the week.
